Last weekend, Panamanian boxing revealed its strength, as the world saw Panamanians fighting for WBA World Championship belts on two different continents. Holding on to the one it already possessed, and only narrowly failing to win its second in the bantamweight division.

On March 16th in the glamour of Hollywood, Florida, Colon's very own super-bantamweight title holder, Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero superbly defended his title for the first time, after winning it from Somsak Sithchatchawal in Thailand last October. He retained his belt by beating Mexico's Ricardo "Piolo" Castillo in a thrilling encounter.

It was a slow starting match with a cautious opening round, and then Castillo being the aggressor for the next two, but after receiving a point deduction for low blows Castillo looked to have run out of energy as Panama's Caballero took the fight to his opponent with a number of heavy blows to the head and body.
